Our Story
Welcome to the Next Generation Political Science Blog! My name is Isabella and I am a 21-year-old student currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Sociology at the Goethe-University in Frankfurt, Germany.
When the idea of this blog first came up, its initial purpose was to summarize the research I was doing for my thesis on cross-strait relations between China and Taiwan with a focus on the Taiwanese perspective. Thus, most of the blog entries were supposed to focus on the geopolitics surrounding East Asia. The concept of this blog would entail sharing insights into the current scholarly debate, as being a student in this field gave me a unique and first-rate point of view.
But soon after commencing the process of building the blog, I realized that solely focusing on one part did not reflect everything I’ve gained intellectually from being in academia, particularly as I am studying Political Science and Sociology, which involves numerous areas that intersect and necessitate a comprehensive understanding to be fully grasped. So ultimately, I decided to open up the blog to everything political science and sociology, as well as cultural topics close to my heart.
While various themes will be explored in the blog, emphasis will be put on China, Taiwan, and International Relations (IR). Cross-strait relations have always been of interest to me, mostly due to my partial Taiwanese heritage and my passion to shed light on this underrepresented and often misunderstood topic from a personal point of view. In addition to being a Cross Culture Kid, the field of International Relations, especially IR in Asia, has always come naturally to me, due to my experience as a Third Culture Kid: I have lived in, Germany, Taiwan, China, and Malaysia, and connected with different political systems, cultures, and norms throughout my entire childhood.
As a young and multicultural person in academia, I believe that it is crucial for our generation to engage in discussions about these topics and to have a voice in shaping the future. Through this blog, I hope to share my perspectives on current events, political issues, and social phenomena by combining my scholarly knowledge of politics and sociology with my culturally diverse experiences. I also hope to learn from my readers and engage in constructive dialogues about these issues. Lastly, I am excited to embark on this blogging journey and look forward to sharing my thoughts with you all. Thank you for visiting my blog, and I hope you enjoy reading my posts.
